Our Story

We’ve Been Building and Collaborating Since 1965

Founded in 1965 by Robert W. Fendler, Fendler Patterson Construction (FP Construction) has grown from humble beginnings in a three-season porch office in Burnsville, MN, to a premier construction firm headquartered in Eden Prairie, MN. Over more than five decades, we’ve expanded far beyond physical buildings to construct enduring relationships through our unwavering commitment to honesty, integrity, and quality. After taking over from his father, Rob Fendler propelled the company forward as President in 1992, with John Patterson joining as a partner in 2004, marking a new chapter in our history. Soon to celebrate our 60th anniversary, we continue to uphold Robert’s foundational values of exceptional workmanship and trust. From restoring historical properties to tackling architecturally challenging projects, FP Construction is dedicated to exceeding expectations and nurturing the legacy of a family-oriented business.

Transforming Construction: The Power of Early Contractor Engagement

In the realm of construction, the traditional narrative often paints contractors as mere executors, brought into the fold only when it’s time to bid on a project. However, this approach, while common, can lead to a cascade of challenges, from budget overruns to project delays. At the heart of this issue lies the failure to recognize the immense value of engaging a general contractor early on in the project lifecycle.

The Change

Builders as Collaborators:

Contrary to popular belief, builders aren’t just builders. They are collaborators, problem-solvers, and partners in the journey from project conception to completion. By embracing this perspective, owners can unlock a wealth of benefits that extend far beyond the construction phase.

The Early Engagement Advantage:

Imagine a scenario where the contractor is brought on board during the conceptual stages of a project. This early engagement sets the stage for a seamless collaboration between the owner, design team, and contractor. With the contractor’s expertise guiding the way, design decisions are informed by real-world considerations such as cost, feasibility, and construction timelines.

Unlocking Success Through Collaboration:

The key takeaway here is that early contractor engagement isn’t just about avoiding pitfalls—it’s about setting the stage for success. By bringing contractors into the fold from the outset, owners can harness their expertise to navigate challenges, optimize resources, and ultimately, bring their vision to life with efficiency and precision.

Changing the Narrative:

It’s time to challenge the status quo and rewrite the narrative surrounding the role of contractors in the construction process. No longer should they be viewed as mere executors, but rather as indispensable partners in the pursuit of project excellence. Together, let’s embrace early engagement, foster collaboration, and usher in a new era of construction where success is not just achieved, but truly defined.
